HPC Surveys/Polls

The HPC Market has experienced healthy growth over the last decade. Here are ClusterMonkey we are constantly asking questions about the market with our "small polls." We also offer summaries of the HPC market. You can also find links to surveys and our past polls here.

From the Good News for Out-of-work Electrons Department

Intersect360 Research has releases their HPC market forecast where they project the worldwide HPC market will grow at a 4.6% compound annual growth rate over the next four years in spite of mixed market messages from vendors. The report calculates 2013 HPC revenue at $30.5 billion worldwide, a 2.5% growth over 2012. They are also offering a free webinar to discuss the results. The full press release with links and more data is below.

The editors of Desktop Engineering have posted the executive summary of a survey entitled "Desktop Engineering with IBM: High Performance Cluster Computing Survey."

Sponsored by IBM, a copy of survey the summary is available for download. Of interest are the "The Barriers to Cluster Adoption" on the last page. Many of these will ring true for the traditional HPC practitioner.

From the "Look free market data" department

Intersect360 Research surveyed the High Performance Computing user community to complete its fifth Site Budget Allocation Map, a look at how HPC sites divide and spend their budgets. They surveyed users on their spending in seven top-level categories: hardware, software, facilities, staffing, services, cloud/utility computing, and other. Each category was further divided into constituent subcategories, resulting in 25 unique items included in the analysis.

More cores means more memory!

Intersect360 Research has released some new findings identifying Trends in HPC Architecture and Configurations. From the report, IBM again took the top spot in High Performance Computing (HPC) system vendors. The survey included end users worldwide, where IBM, Dell, HP, SGI, and Cray collectively captured 56% of the system vendors mentioned.

The report, part of Intersect360 Research's HPC Market Advisory service, provides a detailed examination of the computational systems installed at a broad sample of HPC user sites, including analysis of component technologies such as processors and accelerators. Through its partnership with Tabor Communications, Intersect360 Research surveyed the worldwide readership of HPCwire. Future years‘ Site Census surveys will leverage the newly created HPC500 group.

The comeback kid, returns

Intersect360 Research, a market research and analysis firm focused on the High Performance Computing (HPC) industry, announces the its latest 2010 total market model and five-year forecast for the overall High Performance Computing (HPC) market, including servers, storage, services, software, networks and other products. The forecast horizon is from 2011 through 2015, with compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) using 2010 as a base.

According to Intersect360 Research, HPC market recovery occurred sooner than expected, with strong, double-digit growth in 2010 coming back from the recessionary 2009. In addition, they expect strong growth to continue in 2011 before moderating to more sustainable growth rates in the out-years of the forecast.
