You can build a new kernel as an RPM. In the kernel source directory,
do a 'make rpm'. (Or something like that - you get the idea).
Also if you are trying 2.4.22, apply the ACPI hotfix patch from
ftp://ftp.x86-64.org/pub/linux-x86_64/v2.4
