[Beowulf] Dual Xeon gigabit issues

Thanks to all who responded (on and off list).  It turns out that the most 
likely culprit is a design flaw on certain SuperMicro dual Xeon boards 
that renders them unable to talk to some switches.  Including Ciscos.
