[Beowulf] encoding video cluster style.

I have a friend who encodes huge amounts of video from DV to wmv. He
wants to speed up the process so I suggested that he might want to
parallelise.

Is there anyone that can dig me out of this hole as suggest how I
might go about doing this. there are open source codes, libavcodec
that could maybe be parallelised .
Possible?
