[Beowulf] large memory use

Fellow beowulf-ers:

do you have any references to use and optimization of large memory
installations for large datasets, perhaps with resulting visualization?

say x86 machines with 16-32G of ram, or more

or perhaps notes on AMD 64-bit memory gains and optimizations?
