Benchmarks

I'm suprised no one has jumped on this yet. There are several
packages for testing basic network performance from one node
to another. My personal favorite is netpipe:

The other one is netperf:

http://www.netperf.org/netperf/NetperfPage.html

The web pages are pretty good about explaining things.
