If your target machines have to run Windows, and rebooting them into
Linux is dangerous because of unsaved work, another possibility is to
cross-compile your apps on Linux to Windows and then run in Windows
using Condor or the like. You'll need to install Cygwin/Windows on the
Windows boxes.

This url describes the process of building the cross-compiler
on Linux:

http://www.wxwindows.org/technote/crosscmp.htm

It might be nice to have a FAQ which explains the various options for
"part time clustering", since this cross-compiling one is pretty
obscure.
