Because places like pnl.gov want 64-bit machines? ;-)

Seriously: The peak of the Itanium is great if your application can
get there, and a few codes like Lattice QCD can. You have more
flexability in main memory size. But these benefits might not be
enough to outweigh the higher cost than a P4 or Athlon or whatever.
