We can agree to disagree, and still learn in the process.  My point is
that P4/Athlon chips come labeled with GHz ratings which correlate with
both price and performance.  I'm not interested in a treatise, just a
brief comparison between the two.  What I tried to convey is that the
+/- 50% variability among applications and compilers dwarfs the 10% "per
GHz" P4/Athlon average difference.  Is that so hard to accept?

If you'd care to contribute by benchmarking applications and compilers,
I remain interested.  If you'd like to learn more about using surrogate
models in design optimization, we should continue this discussion off
line.
