[Beowulf] Plan 9

I was surprised to see Plan 9 deployed on a Blue Gene,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Gene#Plan_9_support.
I think of Plan 9 as the direct descendant of System V; Bell Labs wanted to
integrate distributed processing (I believe thinking, everything on the net
can be an appliance to anything else) in the "new" (latter day) unix. I've
never run it myself, but hosting MPI sounds plausible this way. Has anybody
tried it?
