The Debian/Ubuntu way is to be a proper 64-bit distro
on AMD64, so userland is 64-bit.

This is why some people find it hard to run legacy 32-bit
closed source apps there, such as Flash, etc.

Ubuntu's support for these has improved greatly, though.
