There's a really interesting Linux filesystem in development
at the moment called btrfs by Chris Mason at Oracle.

It includes checksums of data on disk and currently benchmarks
really well [1] against non-checksumming filesystems.

It's still very early days for it (the on-disk format
isn't nailed down yet for instance, so don't put anything
on it that you'd want to keep) but it's getting interesting,
for instance the unstable branch recently gained some
multi-device capabilities.
