Well, for cpus, people emphasize spec_rate over spec_cpu, because
spec_rate uses all the cpus on your node. And the Top500 Linpack
benchmark, for all its flaws, uses all the cores in your system.

For networks, some of the elements of the HPC Challenge benchmarks use
all the cores. RandomRing, for example, has pretty different numbers
than a plain 2-core pingpong.

And there's always the mpi-multibw benchmark that PathScale wrote.
