[Beowulf] MPICH compilation problems

Hi Alan,

I think everything is working ok, until it gets to using ld.  Here's the
output from the compile process:

Any ideas what's going on how I might be able to fix it so normal users
can compile the code just fine?  Thanks again for your help.
