Comment: If you agree that a server need ECC memory, then it is fair to compare a Pentium D with an Opteron. I don't see a lot of X2 cpus being used for servers - if any. I suspect a lot of the Pentium D good performance is down to Intels excellent ethernet controllers. That may be a little unfair?
